If you’re looking for Weston around the office or out in the fields this week, you’re not going to find him. He’s not even in the Basin.
As you may or may not recall, back in August Oregon governor John Kitzhaber put together a team to represent Oregon industry and agriculture for a trade mission to Asia. We are proud to announce our international potato salesman, Weston Walker, was on of the folks selected to represent Oregon potatoes.
Jim Cramer, Administrator of the Commodity Inspection Division of the Oregon Department of Agriculture, selected Weston to join the Governor’s latest trade mission. The purpose of the mission is to highlight Oregon agriculture products, tourism and green technology. China is currently one of Oregon’s largest trading partners, with $1.6 billion in exports to the Chinese in the first eight months of this year. However, trade between Oregon and China is down, though demand for Oregon’s ag products continues to grow in Japan (including chipping potatoes!).
While we’re proud Weston is joining the Governor on this mission, we think our salesman is a natural choice for this trip. Weston has helped grow our chipping potato exports over the last seven years, expanding our reach into several Pacific Rim nations. We’re sure Governor Kitzhaber and the others will appreciate his insights and experience in promoting Oregon agriculture – especially Oregon potatoes!
The trade tour will visit Shanghai, Hong Kong, Kyoto and Tokyo and will last for ten days. To download a press release about Weston traveling with the Governor, please visit our page Gold Dust Representative To Travel With Governor Kitzhaber To China, Japan.
And Weston, may your journey be safe and fruitful. We can’t wait to hear about your adventure!
